Created by the University of Minnesota’s Institute for Sustainable Agriculture, and co-published alongside Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE), this publication represents a business-planning guide for alternative farming operations and rural business entrepreneurs. Although created in the Midwest, it serves as a resource for the national farming business community drawing on identification of values to critical management functions. Individual planning tasks outlining 4 key areas of management organizes the guide: marketing, operations, human resources, and finance. For advice on creating an urban farm business plan see the handbook developed by Partnership for Sustainable Communities.
