Urban Farm Business Plan Handbook

Partnership for Sustainable Communities. 2011. Urban Farm Business Plan Handbook. United States Environmental Protection Agency. Accessed at <http://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2015-10/documents/1.urban_farm_business_plan_handbook_091511_508.pdf>

The Partnership for Sustainable Communities, an interagency partnership between HUD, DOT and the EPA, alongside support from the EPA’s Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization supported this project for an urban farm in Toledo. Although the two products resulting from this partnership, the Urban Farm Business Plan Handbook and the Urban Farm Business Plan Worksheets, will be utilized in Toledo, they have wider applications to “brownfield and other communities working on land revitalization across the country that are seeking alternative sustainable reuses that can improve access to fresh and healthy food, and related food shed economics and market conditions in local areas”(p.3). The three joint documents represent a guide on how to produce a business plan for urban farms as well as startup and operation of an urban farm, and a way to compile, calculate and organize information needed to draft a plan.
